Bounden: the app that tricks users into performing ballet

Yes, there’s an app for that.

THERE’S AN APP for nearly anything. Need a torch? There’s an app for that. Want to kill a few hours zapping evil cupcakes? There’s definitely an app for that.

And now, there’s an app that essentially tricks users into performing choreography.

Introducing Bounden, an app developed by Dutch game studio Game Oven. It describes itself as thus:

Game Oven’s whimsical dancing game for two players, with choreography by the Dutch National Ballet. Twist and twirl elegantly, or get entangled with a friend.

Here’s how it works. Two people place their thumb on the screen of an iPhone device to activate the game. The goal of the players is to tilt the device around a virtual on-screen sphere following a path of rings.

The game requires a lot of elaborate arm movement and twirling, so before you know it, you and your partner will be dancing in tandem, albeit probably very awkwardly.

There are five dances included in the game, as well as tutorials to demonstrate how the dances are supposed to be performed.

That all looks perfectly graceful, doesn’t it? Let’s take a look at some Average Joes having a go:

Yeah, that’s more like it.

Bounden* is available from the App Store for €3.59.

*Grace and elegance not included. Giggling and awkward limb placement pretty much guaranteed.
